Important Note: “Expansion” and “contraction” refers to the fact that some languages require more space on the page than English, while others require less space. For example, Spanish takes approximately 16 percent more space than English, and Japanese takes about 15 percent more space. On the other hand, Chinese requires about 40 percent less space than English! When your documents are translated into other languages, proper formatting is required to account for these differences.
